Sacramento Kings forward Matt Barnes is at the center of a New York police investigation after an alleged confrontation at a New York City nightclub early Monday morning, USA TODAY Sports confirmed.
Police received reports that a man inside a Chelsea neighborhood club choked a woman and two others --- a man and a woman --- were assaulted as they attempted to intervene. Footage of the incident obtained by investigators appears to show Barnes was the assailant, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation who is not authorized to speak publicly because the investigation is ongoing.
TMZ, the first outlet to detail the incident, reported that Barnes and another teammate were not at the club when police arrived.
Barnes had two points, an assist and three rebounds as the Kings fell to the New York Knicks, 106-98, at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.
Alex Spiro, Esq., lawyer for Barnes said they are continuing to cooperate with the investigation.
