SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The story of five NBA stars and their shared quest of NBA glory contrasted with their personal journeys will be showcased in a special Netflix documentary.
Among stars like the electrifying Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, L.A. Lakers superstar the "King" Lebron James, Boston Celtics forward and NBA champion Jayson Tatum and the heart and soul of the Miami Heat Jimmy Butler, there's the incomparable Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings, who played a critical role in helping the franchise bust the longest playoff drought in NBA history.
The documentary is a 10-part series offering a behind-the-scenes look at each player. All episodes are releasing on Oct. 9.
According to Netflix, the documentary is an unfiltered view of "life at the pinnacle of professional basketball" but also what life is like off the court.
“Everyone thinks they know us because (of) how we play. People who don’t know me think I’m crazy, probably, how I act on the court with the refs, or other teammates or other players,” Sabonis told ABC10's Matt George. “But you really get to see behind the scenes how I am as a father, a husband and just care about my family....”
Sabonis spoke with ABC10 Sports about the documentary toward the end of September, noting it as a fun experience, albeit one with a lot of cameras.
However, he said the opportunity to shine a light on Sacramento and the Kings is one of the things that got him excited about the opportunity.
"That was the main thing that really got me excited about this show was to really be able to shine a light on Sacramento and everything we've done since I've got here. We don't have many national TV games and the whole world's going to see this," Sabonis said.
Starting 5 debuts on Netflix on Oct. 9.
