CLEVELAND — Following Deshaun Watson's season-ending injury, the Cleveland Browns are signing a new quarterback.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday morning that the Browns are signing QB Bailey Zappe from the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad.

The move comes after Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told the media on Monday that Watson will miss the remainder of the 2024 season and undergo surgery for a torn Achilles suffered during the team's Week 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

In the 2022 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots selected Zappe in Round 4 as the 137th overall pick.

During the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Patriots, Zappe played in 14 games, throwing for 2,053 yards and 11 touchdowns with a 63.2% completion rate.

The Western Kentucky University product also threw 12 interceptions and was sacked 31 times.

After being released by the Patriots this summer, the 25-year-old signed with the Chiefs and has been on the team's practice squad. He has not appeared in any games for Kansas City

It is currently unknown who will start for the Browns on Sunday when they host AFC North rival, the Baltimore Ravens.

Backup QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson's status is unknown after he injured his finger on his throwing hand after replacing Watson on Sunday. QB Jameis Winston took over following DTR's injury.
