Postgame Interviews: San Francisco 49ers talk what went wrong at Super Bowl 2024

Here's what the 49ers had to say after their loss at the Super Bowl.

LAS VEGAS — San Francisco's decision to take the ball first in overtime of the Super Bowl will be debated for a while.

The 49ers drove for a field goal, then lost 25-22 when Patrick Mahomes guided Kansas City 75 yards the other way for the winning touchdown.

San Francisco’s drive ended when the 49ers kicked a field goal on fourth-and-4 from the 9. If they’d known three points wouldn’t be good enough, they could have gone for a touchdown in that spot. Instead it was the Chiefs who knew exactly what they needed to do to win.

Here's what the 49ers had to say after the game was said and done.

Christian McCaffrey

Christian McCaffrey speaks with media after a disappointing loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Among the first things he speaks about is his fumble on the 49ers opening drive.

"It's going to sting. Put that on me," said McCaffrey.

Brock Purdy

Speaking with media, quarterback Brock Purdy placed the responsibility for the 49ers Super Bowl loss on himself. He said it was especially painful that they couldn't get the win for head coach Kyle Shanahan & veterans like Trent Williams.

Kyle Shanahan

Head Coach Kyle Shanhan talks about having no regrets after the Super Bowl loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. He hopes to come back next year, ready to go.

Nick Bosa

49ers Nick Bosa was left speechless after the game, saying he couldn't even look anyone in the eye.

Arik Armstead

49ers Defensive End Arik Armstead speaks with media after the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at the Super Bowl, the challenge of chasing around Patrick Mahomes and the new rules for overtime.
