'I am just so happy to be back': Swimmer Hunter Armstrong returns home after winning medals at Paris Olympics

While Hunter Armstrong plans to take a short break, he is already looking ahead to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

CLEVELAND — Dover native Hunter Armstrong has returned home to Northeast Ohio!

After capturing a silver and gold medal at the Paris Summer Olympics, the 23-year-old swimmer landed at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport where family and friends were waiting.

3News was also at CLE and spoke with the Olympic gold medalist about his time in Paris.

"I am just really happy to be home, honestly," Armstrong said. "Back in Ohio, I mean, after spending the last two years in California and the last two and half months in Europe, I could really use a cheeseburger. I am just so happy to be back home."

During the Summer Games, Armstrong captured a gold medal after Team USA won the 4x100-meter freestyle relay.

In addition, Armstrong swam anchor as the United States men's team finished second place to China in the 4x100 meter medley on Sunday, Aug. 4.

Armstrong also competed in the 100-meter backstroke event, but was eliminated in the semifinals.

"Any opportunity to represent the United States is always an honor, and to be able to represent my hometown, my county and my state is always special," said the Dover native.

In addition, Armstrong thanked his Ohio fans for their support during his time in Paris.

"Mostly just thank you guys for your constant support. I could feel it all the way in Paris. It never fails to bring a smile to my face to get a text from an old coach or teammate or someone close by to my house."

So, what's next for Armstrong? While he plans to take a short break, he is already looking ahead to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

"It's never too early to start thinking about 28. I am going to take a little bit of a break, but once we get back in the water, it's just sights set on doing better for LA."
