SOMERSET, Calif. — There are 131 Californian athletes who qualified for and are heading to Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games. America's Olympic team, Team U.S.A., includes 10 athletes from the Greater Sacramento region.

Here’s a look at Paralympian Jamie Whitmore from Somerset.

Whitmore, 48, will compete in Para-Cycling during the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. She started playing sports when she was 5 years old, going from swimming to softball to volleyball and finally track and field, according to her Olympic bio. She attended Valley High School in Sacramento.

Whitmore learned in 2008 that the source of the pain in her leg was cancer and went on to win a gold and silver medal at the Paralympic Games Rio 2016.

"It’s hard to explain the feeling of working for four years towards something and then it happens! It’s a ton of sacrifices made and not just by me but my entire family," she said in a Facebook post. "I’m grateful once again for this opportunity to represent Team USA."
