SACRAMENTO, Calif. — If you ever dreamed about becoming a professional footballer, now is your opportunity.
On Jan. 20 and Jan. 21, Sacramento Republic FC will be holding their annual soccer tryouts, and anyone can try out as long as they're at least 18 years old. All participants will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of Republic FC's staff, including General Manager Todd Dunivant and Head Coach Mark Briggs.
"Since the club's foundation, we've always known that there are good and talented players in the region of Northern California," said Andre Zayas, manager of team operations. "And that was the initial goal was to get those players from the region, who might not have known, to be seen."
Throughout the 11 years the club has been holding open tryouts, six people have gone on to sign professional contracts with Republic FC, most recently Aldair Sanchez.
"For us, one of our key pillars is unified community. And that's one of the best ways we can do it. We can offer this opportunity to the local community and to the national and international community," said Zayas.
At least one participant will be invited to join the club for training camp this season.
"We definitely recommend it...take the risk, if you believe in yourself," said Sanchez. "We hope to find those guys who are good enough to play with us."
The tryouts will take place at Bartholomew Sports Park in Elk Grove. To anyone interested in attending, be sure to register at www.sacrepublicfc.com/tryouts/.
