SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals are officially heading to Sacramento.
The Sacramento Republic FC will host the Seattle Sounders, who defeated Phoenix Rising, on July 9 or 10. The exact time and date is still to be determined.
The announcement follows concerns that preparations for the California State Fair might impact Sacramento's ability to host the quarterfinal game. Fair officials said Wednesday morning they will do everything they can to host a potential U.S. Open Cup game and welcomed the event.
Sacramento Republic FC defeated the San Jose Earthquakes in a back-and-forth match that went until to the final minutes Tuesday night.
It's the second time in three seasons the team has gone to the quarterfinals, but it'll be the first time in club history that they'll host the quarterfinal game at home.
