Nintendo details its new Amiibo toys-to-life franchise

Nintendo's Amiibo lineup features some of the company's most iconic characters and releases later this year.

Nintendo is releasing its new Amiibo interactive figures for the Toys-To-Live video games genre, pioneered a few years ago by Activision subsidiary Toys for Bob, in late 2014.

Nintendo's Amiibo lineup features some of the company's most iconic characters.

Toys-to-life in video game terms means that real-life figurines are fully playable on screen in compatible video games -- providing users with a toy to play with in real life and an on-screen hero to play with via a video game.

As it stands, the first dozen Ammibo figurines are already available for pre-order at a suggested retail price of $13 apiece and include: Mario, Peach, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Marth, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer. Nintendo said more are on the way.

The Amiibo line is just one piece of Nintendo's lineup for the latter part of 2014, which includes multi-platform titles such as Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventure from Bandai Namco, Skylanders Trap Team from Activision, Watch_Dogs from Ubisoft, and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal from SEGA.
