GRASS VALLEY, Calif. — When Nevada County Sheriff's officers responded to a dispatch call reporting a burnt vehicle, they found the vehicle — but also stumbled upon human remains.
At around 10:20 a.m. on Sunday morning, officers came upon the vehicle on the 12000 block of Amber Street in Grass Valley and began a patrol of the area.
They found what appeared to be human remains in the grassy area of the roadway.
A temporary lockdown of the scene was soon underway as law enforcement awaited a search warrant to continue their investigation.
With help from the California Department of Justice, the California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire and Chico State Anthropologists, the county sheriff's office was able to process the scene.
Nevada County Sheriff's Office officials say the case is being investigated as a suspicious death, but no further information has been released.
