1 dead after SUV crashes into tractor in Tracy, CHP says

A CHP spokesperson said officers arrested the driver of the SUV that crashed into a tractor-trailer on Saturday morning for suspicion of driving under the influence.

TRACY, Calif. — An SUV crashing into a tractor-trailer on I-5 southbound near 132 on Saturday morning left at least one person dead, according to California Highway Patrol Spokesperson Joe Whitlock.

Whitlock said the crash happened south of Blewett road. A tractor drove down the southbound lane when a small SUV approached behind the trailer about 80 to 100 miles per hour.

The SUV seemed to have clipped the left corner of the trailer. Sometime after, the SUV hit the center divider, Whitlock said. An off duty medical worker attempted first aid, but one of the SUV's passengers died at the scene.

CHP officers arrested the driver of the SUV for suspicion of driving under the influence, Whitlock said. The driver was not hurt in the crash.
