TURLOCK, Calif. — One person is dead and two people were taken to hospitals Tuesday after a crash on northbound Highway 99 in Turlock, according to California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 3:20 a.m. just north of Lander Avenue.
Based on the initial investigation, CHP said a white sedan was driving the wrong way on northbound Highway 99. A Tesla was driving along northbound Highway 99 and the two cars collided. The white sedan caught fire after the collision.
The driver of the sedan died. The 37-year-old driver of the Tesla was taken to a hospital, while the 6-year-old passenger was taken to Madera Children's Hospital. Both of them are from Escalon and have moderate injuries, according to CHP.
CHP said they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. Lanes on northbound Highway 99 reopened around 7 a.m.
