3 people from Stockton injured in deadly Merced County crash

Two adults and a toddler were injured when the car they were in was hit head-on by a driver who drifted over into their lane.

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. — Two adults and a child from Stockton were injured Thursday afternoon in a deadly Merced County crash.

According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened around 4:30 p.m. on Canal School Road, north of Highway 33.

CHP says a 22-year-old man from Seaside was driving a Nissan south on Canal School Road while 36-year-old Justin Borges of Stockton was driving north in a Chevrolet.

The driver of the Nissan crossed the solid yellow center lines and crashed head-on into Borges, causing his Chevrolet to land on its roof.

The driver of the Nissan wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and died from his injuries. His unidentified passenger had major injuries. The driver hasn't been identified yet.

Borges and his passengers, Brianne Borges and a two-year-old, were taken to the hospital. Justin and Brianne suffered major injuries.

Drugs and alcohol don’t appear to be a factor in the crash, according to CHP. The cause is still under investigation.
