3 people dead, others injured after two-vehicle crash on SR-99

SR-99 has been reopened

SUTTER COUNTY, California — Three people died in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 99, and multiple others were injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened near SR-113 and Tudor Road in Sutter County.

Officials said the crashed involved a Nissan Sentra that was traveling northbound and a Dodge Challenger that was driving southbound "at a high rate of speed." After gathering evidence and talking to witnesses, the CHP said the Dodge vehicle crossed over into the solid double yellow lines and crashed head onto the Nissan.

As a result of the crash, officials said two people from the Nissan died and one fatally came from the Dodge. There were five occupants in the Dodge Challenger while the Nissan Sentra had two people. The driver of the Dodge is the person who died.

Three other people from the Dodge were taken to a local area hospital while another another was picked up by a relative, the CHP said. CHP believes alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The crash caused road closures on Northbound SR-99 at State Route 113.

Road closures have since been lifted.
