Highway 99 southbound lanes are now all open, Caltrans said in an update. However, there may still be traffic delays.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — Update:

Caltrans said that all southbound lanes on Highway 99 are now reopened. However, there may still be delays due to the earlier crash and morning commuters.

Original story:

A high speed chase on Highway 99 in the outskirts of Elk Grove has put the driver in the hospital with major injuries, California Highway Patrol told ABC10 Friday morning.

As of 5:30 a.m., only one lane of southbound Highway 99 is open as crews work to clean up debris from the crash, according to Caltrans.

Sergeant Jeff King said that just before 2:30 a.m. on April 23, CHP tried to pull over the black Dodge Durango over for speeding and weaving near Sheldon Road in Elk Grove.

The driver of the Durango fled and a high-speed chase ensued, Sgt. King said. The chase ended just before Grant Line Road when the driver lost control, hit the center divider, and flipped over. The car then hit a Caltrans sign that read "Reduce Speed Ahead" before coming to rest.
