Overpass repairs forcing Highway 50 to close overnight in West Sacramento | UPDATE

Detours will be in place from 11 p.m. Monday night to 3 a.m. Tuesday as crews repair the Sycamore Lane overpass.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — One person died in a single-vehicle crash on westbound Highway 50 Monday, according to California Highway Patrol.

Just after midnight, CHP got reports of a crash along Highway 50, west of Jefferson Boulevard. A person driving a Nissan went into the center divide and crashed into support beams for the Sycamore Trail pedestrian overcrossing. A passenger died at the scene and the driver had minor injuries.

According to Steve Nelson, a spokesperson for Caltrans, the crash impacted the pedestrian overcrossing for the Sycamore Trail Extension project.

A section of Westbound Highway 50 in West Sacramento will be closed overnight for emergency repairs to the Sycamore Lane overpass. Detours will be in place from 11 p.m. Monday night to 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to the city of West Sacramento.

CHP said alcohol/drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash. The highway was closed in the area as crews investigated the structural integrity of the overcrossing. The highway reopened around 7:15 a.m.
