MODESTO, Calif. — Update: 7:47 p.m.

According to Caltrans, there are no more traffic restrictions for Highway 99.

Original story:

Enough shattered glass to cover a football field is draped across some lanes of northbound Highway 99 in Modesto, according to CHP.

All lanes along HW-99 near Carpenter Road are closed as Caltrans tries to clean up the mess.

CHP-Modesto currently believe the glass came from a tractor-trailer combination that spilled it.

According to CHP-Modesto, the spill happened around 3:48 when a 69-year-old man spilled 93 panes of glass on the highway, just south of Carpenter. Authorities described the vehicle as a 3XL tractor and trailer.

The glass was about 96" X 130", according to CHP.

Authorities are asking people to avoid the area.
