YUBA COUNTY, Calif. — A deputy with the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a crash Saturday on Highway 65 while responding to a call, officials confirmed Sunday.
The deputy was responding to a report of two unresponsive subjects at Camp Far West Reservoir around 6 p.m. when the crash on Highway 65 near Evergreen Drive occurred, according to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office.
Two people were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol Yuba-Sutter office. One of them was the deputy, who was released later Saturday night, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies said the other party taken to the hospital was the other driver involved in the incident.
Heavy hail was on the ground at the time of the crash, and the incident closed the road from Oakley Lane to Evergreen Drive for roughly two hours, CHP said.
Deputies said they later discovered the two subjects to whom the sheriff’s office was responding were unresponsive due to an overdose.
