Stockton man crashes, dies on Highway 99

The 62-year-old man from Stockton was driving southbound 99 near Wilson Way around 11:55 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he drove up the dirt embankment and crashed.

STOCKTON, Calif. — A man died after crashing his car on Highway 99 in Stockton Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. 

The 62-year-old man from Stockton was driving southbound on Highway 99 near Wilson Way around 11:55 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he drove up the dirt embankment and crashed into the center median. 

After crashing, his 2002 Dodge Durango rolled down the embankment, ejected the driver and landed on its wheels facing the wrong way back on the highway. 

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and CHP said they don't think he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. 

No other injuries were reported and the man was in his car alone. It's currently unknown if any drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, how fast the man was going or what caused him to crash.
