SUTTER COUNTY, Calif — A 93-year-old man died in a Sutter County car crash Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials say the man was driving his 2017 Toyota Prius east on Cornelius Avenue near Pleasant Grove Road around 2:30 p.m. when he stopped at a stop sign.

He continued forward after stopping and was hit by a 2019 Toyota Highlander driven by a 19-year-old man.

The Highlander did not have a stop sign and was unable to avoid the Prius, hitting the drivers side door, according to CHP.

The 93-year-old man from Wheatland was pronounced dead at the scene and officials say the 19-year-old driver from Citrus Heights and his two passengers were not injured in the crash.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor, according to CHP.
