Marysville couple saves woman stuck upside down in water after crash

The California Highway Patrol says the woman’s vehicle landed upside down and her head was submerged in the water.

LIVE OAK, Calif. — A Marysville couple are being hailed as heroes after saving a woman’s life who got into a rollover crash.

It happened just after noon Monday in Live Oak. The driver, a 75-year-old woman, crashed into an irrigation canal full of water on Larkin Road.

The California Highway Patrol says the woman’s vehicle landed upside down and her head was submerged in the water.

Cyle Johnson, 28, and his wife Ashley, 27, were visiting a home on Larkin Road and their daughter was playing out front when she witnessed the crash. She told her parents, and Cyle Johnson jumped over the fence into the canal.

The couple found the driver unresponsive, reached into the vehicle, unlocked the door and forced it open. They cut her seatbelt and pulled her to safety until medics arrived.

She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

“Had it not been for the heroic actions of Cyle, Ashley, and their daughter, this would have been a much different outcome,” wrote CHP.
