SACRAMENTO, Calif. — All lanes of northbound Highway 99 in Elk Grove were shut down Friday morning following a two-vehicle crash involving a semi.
The crash happened on SR-99 just south of Grant Line Road, according to Caltrans. A hazardous materials team was also called out to the scene.
According to CHP officials, the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. after one of the semi's tires blew out while on the #1 lane and hit a cement barricade in the construction zone. The semi had a gas leak on the driver's side and was then impacted by another vehicle.
Both the driver of the semi and the other vehicle appeared to be OK, authorities told ABC10. Two tow trucks were at the crash site removing both vehicles from the area.
Northbound traffic was being diverted at Arno Road. Just after 7 a.m., Caltrans had one lane of the highway moving again.
An estimated time for full reopening has not been made.
That section of the highway is seeing some major construction and you should expect to see some slowing through the weekend.
