Pedestrian killed in Sacramento County crash

The city of Sacramento could declare a state of emergency over a road safety crisis as pedestrians and bicyclists have been either killed or injured in crashes.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — A man was killed Monday after being hit by a vehicle near North Highlands in Sacramento County.

The California Highway Patrol said a vehicle was traveling southbound along Watt Avenue, entering onto eastbound Highway 244. A man was standing in the roadway. The vehicle hit the man and left the area. The man died at the scene.

The man's identity hasn't been released, but California Highway Patrol said he was 44 years old. 

According to officials, the suspected driver could be driving a 2012-2015 Toyota Camry.

The crash is under investigation.

Meanwhile, the city of Sacramento could declare a state of emergency over the road safety crisis as pedestrians and bicyclists have been either killed or injured by vehicles.

Vice Mayor Caity Maple announced the proposal on social media. She added that Mayor Darrell Steinberg and Councilmember Karina Talamantes will be introducing a proposal. Read more about it HERE.
