SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. — Two people were injured in a crash in San Joaquin County Monday.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 10:25 p.m. on westbound I-205 east of El Rancho Road.

The crash happened in an active construction zone and the #3 lane was closed. A 27-year-old man from Stockton, who was a contractor for Caltrans, was working in the left rear bucket of a 2022 Ram in the closed lane. An 18-year-old man driving a 2016 Chevrolet was heading toward the truck and changed lanes into the #3 lane. The front of the Chevrolet crashed into the back of the Ram.

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to a hospital with major injuries. The contractor was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. The identities of the two people haven't been released.

"This incident is a sobering reminder for people to drive with additional caution when they encounter highway work zones," Caltrans said in a statement.

Alcohol or drugs aren't believed to be factors in the crash. The crash is under investigation.
