STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif — A 28-year-old man from Newman died after a crash in Stanislaus County, Friday.

The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. on Sperry Avenue just west of American Eagle Avenue in Patterson, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office. There is construction happening in the area with signs in the eastbound and westbound directions.

A BMW was going west on Sperry Avenue while a Tesla was going east on Sperry Avenue. The sheriff's office said based on the initial investigation, the BMW hit a dip in the road and lost control in the middle of the intersection. The BMW became airborne, hit a center median, and collided with the Tesla.

The driver of the BMW, later identified as Jesus Zeferino Avila, died at the scene. The driver of the Tesla had a minor scrape on their arm.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
