Walnuts cover Hwy 99 after trailer overturns in Sutter County

SR 99 is closed in both directions at O’Banion Road.

SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. — A trailer overturned on Highway 99, spilling a load of walnuts across the stretch of freeway leading to a road closure in Sutter County.

The California Highway Patrol reported on Saturday morning, that a semi-truck with a trailer was traveling southbound on SR 99 when a passenger car, that was stopped on O’Banion Road, pulled out in front of the truck.

The truck tried to avoid the car but ended up sideswiping the car and the truck ended up flipping onto its side on the northbound lanes, according to police

The truck was hauling walnuts, which spilled out across all lanes.

According to CalTrans, SR 99 was closed in both directions at O’Banion Road and Northbound traffic was diverted from Highway 113 to Garden Highway. Southbound was diverted at O’Banion.

CHP says the driver of the truck was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected.
