STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. — A woman was killed in a head-on crash with a semi-truck on Highway 108 in Stanislaus County early Friday morning.
The crash happened between Oakdale and Knights Ferry just after 6 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
When first responders arrived on the scene, they found a red 2006 Volkswagen sedan with its front end crunched beneath the front end of the semi. The driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene.
That person has not been identified.
Investigators say the Volkswagen was heading westbound on Hwy. 108 and had just passed Lancaster Road toward a bend in the roadway. At the same time, the semi-truck driver was heading eastbound when for an unknown reason, investigators say the Volkswagen drifted into the oncoming lane and collided with the semi-truck.
Both the car and truck crashed head-on and eventually came to a stop in the eastbound lane. The driver of the truck was not injured.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
