CALIFORNIA, USA — It's time for summer vacation travel which means road trips in California. The Golden State has much to offer from beaches to mountain camping to big cities.
Hitting the backroads is one way to travel during the summer. These trips are cost-effective, easy to plan and will surely be full of memories. California's North Coast has plenty of camping, hiking and sightseeing.
Bartell's Backroads has been to hundreds of spots across California. Here are five must-see places along the North Coast:
Jurassic Park 2 was filmed in one of California's only rainforests. Hike Fern Canyon, in Humboldt County, to recreate some of these iconic scenes.
The Tour Thru Tree in Klamath, California is a tunnel carved out of a massive redwood tree stump. John Bartell makes a pit stop on the Backroads.
From the high vantage point of the Sky Walk, you can actually see the "wood wide web" at work. Ferns, fungi, and other forest foliage thrive here.
In Ferndale, a butterfat palace is a Victorian-style home or business laced with an exorbitant amount of what’s called "gingerbread."
It's not uncommon to experience a little rain on the Mendocino Coast but don’t let it ruin your experience. Head to the Mendocino Stone Ranch where rain enhances it.
