Memorial Day weekend travel | What you need to know

Anyone planning to leave on Memorial Day, AAA recommends being on the road by 10 a.m.

CALIFORNIA, USA — Anyone planning on hitting the roads this holiday weekend might want to heed advice from AAA.

AAA said most people who are traveling will do so by car. They said more than 37 million drivers are expected to be on the road.

Gas prices are lower compared to last year, and California's average is about $4.80.

Anyone planning to drive, keep some key dates and times in mind. When heading out, AAA says Thursday and Friday between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. are likely going to be the busiest times to drive. The roads on Saturday and Sunday should be relatively clear.

When it comes to heading home, AAA recommends either leaving before 2 p.m. Tuesday or after 6 p.m.
