SACRAMENTO, Calif —
The warmest temperatures so far this year are on tap for Mother’s Day weekend across Northern California.
This week has featured a warming trend and windy temperatures thanks to California being sandwiched between a low pressure system to the east and a high pressure system approaching from the Pacific. The influence of the high pressure system will become the dominant influence on Northern California weather beginning Thursday and temperatures will rise into the 90s by Friday, lasting through the weekend and beyond.
The forecast high temperature of 91 degrees is far from a record and 90 degree days aren't rare this time of year. Based on data dating back to 1990, here are the number of days in each high temperature range on Mother’s Day in Sacramento.
- 60 degree days: 4
- 70 degree days: 11
- 80 degree days: 12
- 90 degree days: 6
- 100 degree days: 1
The record high temperature of 101 degrees was in 1996 and luckily nowhere in the Sacramento Valley will get close. It will be warmer than average this weekend and the average high temperature on Mother's Day is 79 degrees.
Rain is uncommon on Mother’s Day and hasn’t happened since 2010 in downtown Sacramento.
This weekend will not see any rain. Instead, the warm, borderline hot temperatures this weekend will be paired with sunny skies and light winds. Foothill temperatures will be in the 80s this weekend and the Sierra will see temperatures rise into the upper 60s and 70s.
Temperatures will remain elevated through next week with 90s forecast every day through Wednesday. After that, uncertainty remains in the weather pattern in the second half of next week, but no rain is in the extended forecast.
