SACRAMENTO, Calif. — After a stretch of near 100-degree heat, big changes are coming for Northern California.
Thursday afternoon will see another near-100-degree day with temps topping out in the upper 90s. Most valley locations will also see an increase in winds as a new system approaches. This will create stronger winds into the afternoon in the 15-20 mph range and some gusts up to 30 mph out of the Northwest.
The primary concern with the heat and wind combination is a fire risk for grassy areas. Many more people are moving around Northern California increasing the chance for an accidental fire start. Those living near wide open grassy areas will need to pay attention to fires and the direction of the wind.
By Thursday night the winds will still be strong, but the temperatures will be coming down to the 60s.
Friday is set to be a big day of weather changes with the high temperatures dropping by as much as 15 degrees into the low 80s and the wind will be stronger with 20-25 mph sustained wind and stronger gusts.
Friday night the Sierra might see a few showers and in far Northern California the mountain areas might see a few thunderstorms.
On Saturday the wind will relax and the temperatures drop even more into the upper 70s. It will be a perfect weather day for the valley.
On Sunday a new warm-up begins for valley areas with the temperatures jumping about 10 degrees into the upper 80s.
