SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The most recent storm that hit Northern California saw record rain for Sacramento Executive Airport, Stockton, and Modesto.
Rain arrived on Sunday, with more on Monday. The low pressure system that combined with the atmospheric river stalled out Monday, providing as much as 2.51 inches of rain in Sacramento, beating out the old record of 1.19 inches set in 2002.
Stockton also faired well with rainfall, setting a new record Monday, with 1.03 inches of rain, breaking the old record of .83 inches set in 2020. Modesto’s record rain was around 1.38 inches on Tuesday, besting their previous record of .69 inches set in 2002.
Another low pressure system moves in Wednesday afternoon that should last into Thursday. That winter storm system is expected to bring in another half inch to an inch of rain for Sacramento Valley, with a quarter inch of a half inch for the San Joaquin Valley.
Forecasters expect widespread rain, gusty winds and snowfall in coastal mountains and in the Sierra Nevada, where the winter snowpack normally supplies about 30% of the state’s water needs.
