Records fall across Northern California as heat wave grips the state

Temperatures at Sacramento Executive Airport reached 114 degrees, just short of the all-time record of 115 degrees but exceeding the September record of 109

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Unrelenting heat is torching California as daily records are being smashed across the region.

Sacramento Executive Airport hit 45.6 C Monday, converting to a sizzling 114 degrees Fahrenheit according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento. This breaks the previous September record of 109 degrees but falls just short of the all-time record of 115.

Fairfield hit a shocking 117 degrees this afternoon, smashing their previous all-time high of 114.

The heat is expected to peak tomorrow but 110-plus degree highs are expected for the rest of the work week. It is not until this weekend that the record-setting heat dome will weaken and temperatures will drop back to the 90s.

Along with dangerously hot daytime temperatures, overnight lows will provide little to no overnight relief, according to NWS Sacramento. Valley lows will be in the 70s and 80s while the foothills will struggle to drop into the 70s.

Below are the preliminary high temperatures for Monday, along with previous records.
