SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Brace yourself for a scorching weekend in Sacramento as the California State Fair rallies back to Cal Expo.

It's the first time in two years since the state fair has been held, but guests will be greeted both by the aroma of funnel cakes and by the arrival of above average temperatures.

We can expect heat, dry weather and lots of sun for at least the next 10 days as high pressure dominates the forecast. The hottest time of day is from 4-6 p.m. Temperatures will gradually cool through the evening with sunset around 8:30 p.m. Keep in mind, some of the rides will have hot metal parts and seats during the late afternoon and early evening.

The state fair, which runs from July 15 through the end of the month, highlights much of what the state has to offer along with live music, classic fair foods and carnival rides. As you head out to enjoy the opening weekend, here is a look at what to expect in the weekend forecast.

Weekend Forecast

Friday: By the time gates open at 10 a.m., temperatures will already be reaching 80 degrees with no cloud cover and a minimal breeze. Highs will be around 98 with winds of 5-10 mph.

Saturday: Saturday is expected to be the hottest day, with highs peaking near 102. There will be no clouds, and some light and variable winds expected.

Sunday: Slightly cooler on Sunday with a high near 101 forecast with light and variable winds. The Delta Breeze should bring relief in the evening.

Extended Forecast

Temperatures will gradually cool following the weekend heat, dropping back to near climatological normals for mid-July in the low to mid-90s. A low-pressure system will lead to increased onshore flow and seasonal temperatures by midweek. Monday and Tuesday will still be warm with highs in the upper 90’s before dropping to mid 90’s by the middle of the week.
