Travel in the Sierra is not pretty this Sunday. Eastbound traffic is backed up along I-80 at Applegate and both I-80 and US 50 remain covered in snow. Chains are required on both unless you're in a 4-wheel-drive vehicle with snow tires.
Travel is highly discouraged, but if you have to go, make sure you carry extra food, water, and blankets. Also make sure that you're driving with a full tank of gas - as drive times are now more than double.
Most importantly, don’t forget to check the latest road conditions.
Mountain passes will receive between 6 and 10 inches of new snow Sunday, with between 3 and 5 inches of snow at lower elevations above 1,500 ft.
The good news is the weather in the Sierra begins to clear on Monday and lots of new snowfall translates to great skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.

DRIVING
Presidents Day weekend may be the busiest of the ski season, but Skiers and snowboarders reading this might want to rethink a trip to the snow. Getting to the resorts could take hours!
If you absolutely must get out on the mountains, wait to drive up on Sunday or Monday.
Snow showers will continue Sunday, but with much less wind. Monday will be delightful with sunny skies and an abundance of snow.
