SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Northern California always goes through big changes in the spring, with swings in temperature and a few late season storms.
Beginning Wednesday and lasting through Friday, the region will undergo a type of heat wave with afternoon temperatures approaching daily records.
The record for Sacramento at the Executive Airport location on April 6 is 90 degrees and the forecast high for Thursday is 88. These temperatures are often experienced in June and not very often in early April.
This isn't the first time Northern California is flirting with record-setting temperatures. At the beginning of spring, Sacramento set new records while Stockton tied previous record highs.
All heat precautions should be taken into consideration with early season heat because many people are not used it it and may be caught off guard. Mornings are often the time of relief as temps will drop to the 50s and low 60s early then rise to record or near record temperatures.
Friday will see highs near 90, but will also add wind to the forecast. Wind should be gusting up to 20 - 25mph in the afternoon and will elevate the fire risk, especially for grassy areas. Allergy issues may spike as well with higher pollen counts during windy days in the prime allergy month of April.
The weekend will see a cooling trend begin with highs dropping to the low 80s Saturday and 70s for Sunday. Monday will see continued cooling with rain chances by the end of the day.
