BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — There have been at least 38 reported aftershocks following a magnitude 5.2 earthquake in the Bakersfield area Tuesday night.
The earthquakes was reported around 9:10 p.m. There were no immediate reports of damage. People reported feeling the earthquake as far as Los Angeles, Santa Clarita and Long Beach.
According to USGS,, there is a 7% chance that one or more aftershocks could be larger than the magnitude. 5.2 quake.
Smaller aftershocks are expected within the next week, with up to 41 magnitude 3 or higher. There have been at least 12 aftershocks reported at magnitude 3 or higher as of 10 p.m.
"It is having a lot of aftershocks... that's a pretty active sequence for this very short amount of time since the event," said Dr. Lucy Jones, seismologist.
