STOCKTON, Calif. — A preliminary magnitude 5.2 earthquake was reported southwest of Lamont, California.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake struck around 9:10 p.m. It was followed by a series of aftershocks, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake, magnitude 3.8 quake and magnitude 4.5 quake.
"It is having a lot of aftershocks. We've already had two above magnitude 4 and four above magnitude 3, between magnitude 3 and 4. That's a pretty active sequence for this very short amount of time since the event," said Dr. Lucy Jones, seismologist.
It was centered about 13.8 miles southwest of Lamont, or 18.5 miles south of Bakersfield.
People reported feeling it in Los Angeles, Long Beach and Santa Clarita. There are no immediate reports of damage.
