SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — California has dealt with storm after storm this winter. With another one in their midst, some Sacramento County residents face the possibility of flooding.
A flood advisory is in effect Thursday night for parts of Central and Northern California, including most of the region.
A river flood warning was also issued for the Wilton area, which goes into effect Friday afternoon, which brings the potential for flooding of homes and roads.
"If that's the case we ask people not to drive in flooded areas. if you see flooding, call 311 and just make sure that we know," said Matt Robinson, Sacramento County public information officer.
The county has five sandbag locations for residents to prepare. Locations are open in Sacramento, Orangevale, Rio Linda, Wilton and Elk Grove.
As the rain fell over Sacramento County Thursday night, some people were making last minute preparations. The Cosumnes River is expected to rise above flood stage early Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Sacramento County officials are warning residents to be prepared.
"After what happened in January, hopefully people are still prepared to deal with what's coming in. We're going to have a lot of rain," said Robinson. "Probably melt the snowpack at a lower level and so that's going to cause even more water to come back our way."
The Wilton area was hit hard by storms this year. Homes and roads flooded after the New Year's Eve storm. The county told residents to be safe and heed warnings from law enforcement.
"Just be ready, be prepared and just make sure that if law enforcement says you need to leave that you leave," said Robinson.
