SACRAMENTO, California —
Milder conditions are in the forecastthis week with near to slightly below normal high temperatures and light wind following the windy weekend.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 5 p.m. Sunday and winds will taper off as the evening progresses. Humidity values will remain low but will slightly rebound as the dry north winds die down.
Another clear, dry night means temperatures will plummet in the overnight hours. Sacramento recorded low temperatures in the 30s on Friday and Saturday, dropping to 37 and 39.
Morning low temperatures will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s for the next few days before moderating by the end of the week.
Patchy frost will be possible in the valley, so take precautions to protect any sensitive plants.
Sierra temperatures will be extremely cold for this time of year and will be on par with those of mid-winter. Sierra residents will wake up to temperatures in the teens for the next few days.
The gusty weekend was due to Northern California being sandwiched between a low-pressure system passing to the east and high-pressure building in from the west.
High pressure will be the dominant feature in the weather pattern for the first half of the week, but low pressure could be making a return, raising rain and snow chances.
There is still uncertainty on how far south the storm associated with the anticipated low-pressure system will drop, but for now the greatest precipitation chances are in the northern third of the state.
High temperatures in the valley will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s throughout the week. By Wednesday, temperatures will be a few degrees warmer than Monday, but still in the lower 70s.
