The freeze warning is in effect from 2-8 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday for the northern San Joaquin Valley and southern Sacramento Valley, including the cities of Sacramento, Fairfield/Suisun, Stockton, and Modesto.
Temperatures below 32 and into the upper 20s are expected for these areas, posing a danger to plants and crops, pipes and pets.
The hard freeze warning is in effect 2-8 a.m. for the central and northern Sacramento Valley, including the cities of Shasta Dam, Redding, Red Bluff, Chico, Oroville, Marysville/Yuba City, Alder Springs, Paradise,
Grass Valley and Jackson.
Temperatures are expected to dip all the way down into mid to lower 20s.
Hard freeze warnings come into effect when temperatures drop below 28 degrees for an extended period of time, according to the National Weather Service.
The hard freeze warning is particularly harmful for crops and blossoming trees, considering the area is a major supplier of almonds and other crops.
