Near record lows and Freeze Warning in effect for Northern California

Sub-freezing temperatures are expected for several hours overnight in the valley through Friday morning

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A big blast of Arctic air will bring possible record-setting low temperatures to parts of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys. A Freeze Warning is also in effect from 2 a.m. Wednesday through 9 a.m. Friday.

The cold weather system that pushed into Northern California Tuesday opened the door for colder air to move through the state.

Sub-freezing temperatures are expected for several hours overnight in the valley through Friday morning. The cold weather could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. People and pets should find proper shelter from the cold.

Thursday morning will see the coldest temperatures. That is when lows drop to the mid-20s in the coldest areas for 6 to 8 hours.

People should take steps now to protect themselves, their pets, their pipes and plants.

Record lows are in the upper 20s and 30s, which is close to the forecasted lows through Friday.
