SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Triple-digit heat is fairly common in Northern California during August, but this stretch will be a challenge.
Highs in most valley spots hit 100 Sunday and this entire week will be hotter.
Many valley locations will be near 103 Monday with morning lows in the 60s and dry weather into the Sierra.
Tuesday to Friday highs will cross 105 degrees up to 110 degrees. For this reason, the National Weather Service is likely to issue an Excessive Heat Warning.
This kind of warning is issued when daytime temperatures are very hot and the evenings are very warm as well with little recovery. This kind of heat can put people's health at risk because of the inability to cool down and regulate a normal body temperature.
During the heat of the day, you are advised to drink water, find shade and most importantly find air conditioning. If you or others are experiencing the signs of heat stroke, you must seek air conditioning as a way to cool down and recover.
Wednesday will be hot as well in the range mentioned before (105-110) and Thursday will be close to 104-108. Friday will be hot as well, but temperatures will start to come down from the extreme heat and will top out near 100.
Overnight lows will dip to the 70s during the week. Sierra thunderstorms become a daily threat in the afternoon beginning Tuesday through most of the week.
