SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The hot temperatures are back in the forecast. Daytime highs will reach the lower to middle 90s Monday and lower 100s starting on Tuesday.

The upper-level trough that brought the region 70s and 80s last week will move east and a ridge approaches. A ridge will bring the region warmer than average temperatures.

The average temperature is 90° for Sacramento, but we will run about 2-5 degrees above that for most valley spots. Then, on Tuesday, the area will be 10 degrees above average, with daytime highs reaching the lower 100s.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, a closed low will form off the coast of central California. This will move moisture into Northern California and may prompt thunderstorms later this week for the Sierra. As it looks now, it will mainly impact the southern Sierra.
