Mississippi lineman pauses wedding bells to answer call of duty in Florida

A soon-to-be groom went from wedding prep to hurricane help a week before he says 'I do.'

HARDEE COUNTY, Fla. — With his wedding one week away, a Mississippi lineman is reporting for duty in Florida before walking to the altar.

Brady Creel gets married in one week.

Instead of preparing for wedding bells, he's answering to the call of service by helping Wauchula repair its electrical grid, according to a release from the nonprofit National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. The 25-year-old volunteered for the mission.

Hurricane Milton brought intense winds and rain as a Category 3 storm Wednesday, knocking out power to 57,000 homes in Wauchula.

It's not clear how long the soon-to-be groom will be in Florida, just that his selfless act of service will likely help thousands of people who are now facing the aftermath of Milton.

Creel is also a part-time sheriff's deputy. See photos of him and his fiancée below.
