SACRAMENTO, Calif — Many parts of California are known for hot and dry spring weather, but this year mild temperatures and good air quality have made it a truly unique year leading up to summer.

Most locations saw only a handful of days in the 90s, and Stockton and Modesto recorded four months in a row of below-average temperatures. Sacramento was close as well and saw May coming in below average.

As of Friday morning, Sacramento has seen 17 days of below-average highs and will see more this June before the pattern changes next week.

Sacramento has seen more than 280 days in a row without recording a triple-digit afternoon stretching back to early Sept. 2022.

This streak is in jeopardy next week and weekend as summer heat finally arrives and should stick around for a while.

Friday will see highs around 80 then mid-80s for the weekend. While these temperatures are warmer, they are still technically below the average of 90.

By Wednesday next week, the heat of Texas and the Southwest will start to impact Northern California and highs in the low 90s should be common through the end of next week.

Weekend highs near 100 will be possible and the Fourth of July looks just about as hot.

While mild temperatures are usually crowd-pleasers, the heat of summer is common and will take over next week and likely beyond. It's very possible we do not see highs in the 70s until late summer or early fall.
