SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The last time it rained in Sacramento was the first week in January.

It has been a remarkable and now record-setting streak of dry days in the middle of winter.

The National Weather Service of Sacramento has been keeping records of these "Rainy Season" dry streaks and lists 1976 as the year of the longest streak of dry days at 44.

By midnight on Monday, February 21 it will be the 45th day in a row without rain for downtown Sacramento during the rainy season. The NWS Sacramento lists November to March as the rainy season for this set of records.

It is important to mention that this is only for one location and many foothill locations and Sierra locations did see a mix of rain and snow last week, but it's still important to understand the context of this dry streak.

Snow is currently falling in the Sierra and the streak in many mountain locations was broken last week.

There is a chance for a few random showers in valley locations on Tuesday and that may end the streak, but the amount of rain would not be impactful aside from record-keeping importance.
