CALIFORNIA, USA — A highly unusual August system continues to move into Northern California with impacts rarely seen in summer. Mild temperatures, clouds and precipitation all are on tap for Friday into Saturday.

Friday temperatures started off cool in the 50s for the valley and cold in the Sierra. As the system moves in during the day, there will not be much warming for most locations.

Temps in the valley will be in the mid-70s which is normal for the middle of October but it's happening two months out of season. The higher elevations will have temps in the 50s which is a cold day for August.

The clouds will continue to roll in during the day but the main chances for rain and snow will not happen until very late Friday and into Saturday morning.

The showers will be scattered and very light, but for August this is unusual. In addition to the rain, snow can be possible down to about 8,000 feet. This puts the snow above some of the major passes like Donner on  I-80 and Echo on Highway 50 but flurries are possible there. The highest passes in the Sierra are still open but could get a dusting of snow Between Friday and Saturday.

Thunderstorms are also possible on Saturday as the system clears out.

It all adds up to a strange storm with impacts but brings benefits as well since it's going to be mild for a few days in summer.

Beginning Monday we are back to summer heat with temps near 100 or above for three days.
