SACRAMENTO, Calif. — After a record hot June, July and August for California cooler temperatures will be a welcome relief starting Wednesday.
An area of high pressure has kept California mostly dry for months, but that is set to change by this weekend. Aside from a few days of thunderstorms, Northern California has not seen a traditional system for months, but that changes on Saturday.
A cooler system will start to bring rain to the north coast by Saturday night. The system will continue to move south overnight and brings rain chances to all elevations by Sunday. It's difficult to determine how far south the system will hold together but as of Wednesday computer models show at least light rain to the I-80 corridor.
For the coast and higher elevations, the system could bring more than an inch of rain. This will help dry soils recover and help get ongoing large fires much closer to containment.
The system will bring highs to the 70s and low 80s for much of the area.
