SACRAMENTO, Calif. — October in Northern California often has wild weather changes and this week we will see it all.

Northern California valley locations will start off the week with more late-season hot weather. Highs will be in the low 90s for Monday and Tuesday. This is about 8-10 degrees above normal for this time in October when most valley spots top out in the low 80s.

The heat will last for a few days and stay just under records.

The skies will be mostly clear except for the San Joaquin Valley and areas near currently burning fires. Smoke and haze should clear later in the week.

On Wednesday we will start to see breezy conditions come back with a steady wind in the 10-15mph range for the valley. Temperatures start to fall with highs drifting into the mid-80s.

Thursday will have partly cloudy skies and more cooling into the upper 70s and breezy.

Friday is the big day of change with winds picking up and rain chances moving in overnight for the higher elevations. By early Saturday morning, the valley could see some light rain. For the Sierra, the light rain should last through a good portion of Saturday into the afternoon and evening.

The snow level remains high with snow only sticking to the higher peaks around Tahoe and the Sierra but not quite making it to the major passes.

Snow levels drop to about 7,800 ft. by early Sunday morning and would have to time out with the last moments of the storm to produce snow.

It's early in the week but rain totals in the range of 0.10"- 0.25" are forecast for the higher end areas getting rain for the valley.

There will be changes to the timing of the storm and totals during the week as the forecast is refined.
